to Enlightenment |
|
There are many paths to enlightenment. Although this short tribute to the paths seems extensive at first, this by no means is a complete list, nor have we given any of these paths the amount of consideration they deserve. Please use this introduction to the paths as a stepping stone, to help guide you in learning about and choosing a path. If you are sincere in your quest, no amount of information will be enough because it takes much more to reach the goal. It takes determination, dedication and most of all, performing your spiritual practice in earnest, eagerly, consistantly and constantly.
Although many orthodox religions as taught today in churches, temples and synagogues do not seem to have enlightenment as a goal of their beliefs, the philosophies and practices of these religions can help steer one in the right direction towards the goal. It is with determination, devotion and dedication to the goal that one cultivates the state of mind needed to find liberation from suffering and finally enlightenment. Within each of these religions one finds a common thread of truth and a common basis of teachings. As such, these formal religions can be very much a part of the path to enlightenment. However it is not necessary to study any of these religions to find the ultimate goal of life. It is much more important to be in communion with God (the Supreme Awareness) in meditation or prayer rather than to study the teachings of any of these religion's texts. Even so, the study of these texts, or of other's writings on the path can be very helpful if done with openness and a beginner's mind. However, to blindly follow any religion or path as taught by another is to miss the mark and waste precious time. We encourage you to become familiar with the beliefs of these religious paths and then listen to your heart, for it is there where you will find the answers you seek. It is there where you will find the answers to which type of path you need in this life to advance yourself into a greater awareness of where you are, and what you need to do.
Do not allow any religious authority to sway you in your beliefs, or attempt to frighten you into submission. For centuries, those of authority have used their man given power to try to discourage the mystic and punish all who fail to follow their direction. For you to follow the direction of your own heart releases you from their authority over you. Even with such freedom, if you fear for your life, or the judgement of others, you may still follow your heart in silence if necessary. With our overwhelming convictions in our beliefs, living in a country that claims spiritual tolerance, we still do not proclaim our spiritual preferences to everyone we meet.
It is estimated that there are approximately six billion people on this earth.
We believe then that there are approximately six billion paths to God.
Whichever path has chosen you at this time, please try to be aware enough and open enough to understand that another's path can be just as right for them as yours may seem for you. Any path, when performed with all one's heart, mind, soul and energy can be very rewarding and bring one into enlightenment.
Many are the names of God and infinite the forms through which He may be approached. In whatever name you worship Him, through that He will be realized by you.- Sri Ramakrishna
